I think almost every member owns the Chinese Brush Painting and Instruction Guide by Ning Yeh, his books a re a very popular among the Sumi-e Members. Several of our members own all three of these books. Ning Yeh is an Master Chinese Brush Painter, and an excellent teacher, he also owns OAS (Oriental Art Supplies) as listed in the Painting Tools and Techniques Source Listing. Several of the Sumi-e Member's had the opportunity to study with Ning when he came to IL a few years ago. Shirley Harder has traveled to China with Ning twice. Our member's consider his books amongst the Best!. If you can only purchase one of Ning's books, I would suggest buying Chinese Brush Painting and Instruction Guide first.

Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned painter, you can never have enough good books, especially on painting. I literally have shelves of books on Sumi-e, Chinese Brush Painting, Calligraphy, Water Color, Oil painting, Graphic Art and Illustration, not to mention my newest acquisiton of Computer Graphic Books, yet I still can't leave a bookstore without checking out the selection of Art Books. I think a good book by a Master Painter can be your best teacher and a close friend that you consult with, for inspiration and instruction on approaching a new subject or learning a new or different technique.
